However, if your dog or puppy has ingested an entire bottle please contact your veterinarian to seek their advice and watch for any adverse reactions.
No. All BarkLogic products contain small amounts of essential oils, in percentages that are safe for dogs and puppies, however cats have a different physiology. Many essential oils, even in small amounts, can be toxic for cats since they have very sensitive livers that lack the P450 cytochrome metabolic pathway and they cannot metabolize most essential oils. If you are interested in using products with essential oils on your cat, always do so with the direction of your veterinarian.

Head lice are human parasites. Human head lice live on the scalp and hair and feed on our blood. They cause itching, discomfort, and often one will feel like something is “crawling” their hair and scalp.
Headlice spreads quickly and easily and are primarily spread through person-to-person contact. Head lice are able to crawl very quickly, but they cannot hop, jump, or fly. They can also “trapeze” from one person’s hair to another’s with head-to-head contact, and they can also “drop” off the hair into a coat, hood, hat, or other surface.
Not very long. Lice need a food source ( human blood) and the warmth of the scalp to thrive. Once they are off of the head, they can only survive 24-48 hours at the most.
No. Human head lice are species specific and stay on humans. Dogs’ and other creatures have their own species-specific types of lice and parasites.
Nits are lice eggs, and are quite small and uniform in shape. They vary in color after hatching. Nits are generally white, off-white, or greyish, and oval-shaped. Female lice lay their nits at an angle on the hair shafts closest to the scalp where the warm body temperature is able to keep them warm, while they incubate, until they hatch into baby lice, also called nymphs.
Below is the average size of a louse and lice egg (nit). You can see them with the naked eye, but you have to know what you are looking for. Lice crawl quickly so you need to inspect the scalp and hair closest to the scalp. The nits are “glued” onto the hair with nit glue, so they are stuck onto the hair shaft and will not blow away or fall off.
Sit the subject on a chair under bright light. Day light works well too. Part the hair and closely examine the hair closest to the scalp, especially the first 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Check the entire head and scalp, because often lice infestations are localized in only one area of the head, such as behind the ears or nape of neck, especially when the lice infestation is just beginning. Run a nit comb through the hair starting at the scalp, and inspect the lice comb carefully for lice and nits. Magnification glasses are very helpful.
Lice needs to be treated. It will not go away on its’ own. An effective lice shampoo or lice spray is the best way to get rid of lice along with nit combing.
There are many types of lice treatments on the market and they fall into 3 main categories.
1) There are over the counter Lice Shampoos like Nix and Rid. They are pesticide based and can be toxic, and lice treatment has to be spaced 7-10 days apart. These OTC lice shampoos are not optimal since science has recently shown lice have become immune to the active ingredients in these products, which can also be neurotoxins.
2) There are prescription-based lice treatment shampoos, rinses, and sprays and those also contain pesticides which are newer and stronger, so lice are not as resistant to them, however they are also neurotoxins and not safe for repeat and frequent use.
3) This last option is a parent favorite – natural lice treatments that do not contain harmful pesticides. These natural lice products usually contain plant-based enzymes and essential oils which physically attack the louse’s exoskeleton, the hard crunchy shell on the outside of the louse’s body. Good natural lice products are highly effective and are safe for repeat use, even daily use as needed, since they are only toxic to lice and nits, and not to humans. They are also eco-friendly and much more pleasant to use.
No. Nits are “glued” into the hair and will not fall off or be washed away. They need to be removed manually with a sturdy nit comb like the LiceLogic Eliminator Nit Comb, or with a strand-to-strand technique using the fingers.
Yes. Lice spreads very quickly among children and families. One child with a case of head lice can trigger an entire school classroom or camp lice infestation. Also, it is typical for family members to get lice from the infested person, usually a child between the ages of 3 – 12, who is in school, camp, or group activities like gymnastics or baseball, to name a few examples.
Not necessarily, but you need to do frequent lice checks on each member of the family, and caregivers, while treating the infested person.
Yes, they do. In fact, they work much better than the Over-the-Counter Lice products and the Prescription based lice products, since lice cannot become immune to enzymes and essential oils. Natural lice shampoos can also be used daily until all the lice and nits are gone, with no required waiting time in between treatments. Not all natural lice products are created equal though, so do your research as they are not found in most stores and need to be ordered online.
